Enterprise focused VoIP phone UT880 gets its own App Store; powered by NEC

2 MIN READ

Apivio’s UT880, an Android-based VoIP phone designed for enterprises, has got its own App Store. Launched by the company’s channel partner, NEC Corporation of America (NEC), the App Store will feature customized free and paid apps that “enhance enterprise productivity.”

“This is an important milestone in the evolution of the UT880,” said Rob Bakshi, President and CEO, Apivio.

“NEC’s App Store will facilitate the delivery of on demand and push software allowing the UT880 to be alive, evolving and always current with technology and users’ needs.”

Apivio and NEC have partnered since 2014 to sell the Monet series’ UT880 Android enterprise VoIP phone into the North American market. NEC has committed to selling 20,000 UT880 phones and the company claims that to date Apivio has shipped 10,000 units to NEC.

“The launch of the App Store is part of our strategy to develop this premium segment of the enterprise phone market,” said Ram Menghani, VP of Product Management, NEC Corporation of America.

The UT880 offers cross-platform compatibility, enterprise connectivity, and on-going upgrades through proprietary and third-party applications. The launch of the App Store is expected to drive customer demand for these phones.

Apivio Systems for the record, is a Canadian technology company principally engaged in the design, development, marketing, and sale of communications equipment and software. It has a wholly-owned Korean subsidiary that supplies VoIP telephone equipment and other products to Korean and international telecommunications carriers.
