Tableau Mobile now available for Android smartphones too

Business intelligence and analytics software company, Tableau Software, has extended its mobile version — Tableau Mobile — to Android smartphones as well. Till now, it was only available for iOS and Android tablets.

The app would be provided with additional features that include search and browse to find vizzes (visualizations) and dashboards, interact with data to understand relationships, connect securely to “Tableau Online” or Tableau Server.

“Our customers are out in the world making decisions, and they need their data where they are,” said Dave Story, Vice President of Product Development at Tableau.

“We’re thrilled to bring Tableau Mobile to the tremendous number of people around the world who use Android smartphones.”

The app can be installed only if the user has a Tableau Online or Tableau Server account. Tableau claims to have more than 42,000 customer accounts. It also claims that tens of thousands of people use its free version — Tableau Public, which of course comes with limitations.

Tableau is known for turning data into “beautiful” interactive charts showing trends in time, geography and “nearly anything else you desire.”

Recently, Tableau Software announced partnerships with online learning companies Lynda.com, Pluralsight, and Udacity to help people acquire data analysis skills needed for today’s workforce. According to McKinsey Global Institute, by 2018 the United States could have a shortage of 140,000 to 190,000 people with analytical expertise and lack as many as 1.5 million managers and analysts trained to understand and make decisions based on the analysis of big data. Glassdoor also named “data scientist” the number one job in America in 2016 based on earnings potential, career opportunities and number of job openings.
