Amsterdam-headquartered TomTom (TOM2) — a fleet management company — has introduced the availability of truck trip planning into their application TomTom MyDrive.

The feature reduces driving time of professional drivers by allowing them to plan and manage their journeys. The journeys which are truck-specific can be customized and roads and stops can be sought and synced to a TomTom Trucker navigation device.

TomTom MyDrive, a website and app is designed to connect cars to the digital world. Drivers can use their smartphone, tablet or PC to review real-time traffic information, plan routes, and send destinations to their TomTom GO, before they get in the car.

The truck-trip-enabled feature allows professional drivers to conveniently plan a multi-stop route for their truck’s specific size, weight, cargo and speed. Also the Traffic Checker feature allows the driver to receive the notifications on their smartphones and know the reason behind the traffic congestion on their commute.

Corinne Vigreux, Co-founder and Managing Director, TomTom Consumer, said: “The innovative combination of truck-specific routing, with insanely accurate TomTom Traffic information, is designed to help save time and increase efficiency. Drivers will know the best time to depart, so when they get in their vehicle, they’re ready to go.”

How does the truck trip planning works on TomTom MyDrive ?

  • Set Destination: Search for destination on phone or on web and then send it instantly on TomTom Device. The device will automatically plan the route for the destination.
  • The know-how of the scenario: The actual traffic situation can be seen along with estimated departure and arrival timings. One can gauge where traffic has slowed down and why. Whatever is seen on the screen is exactly seen on the road.
  • Make customized maps: Import Points of Interest to your TomTom Trucker. Also the favorite and active destinations can be synced to the device. On the route, speed camera alerts and real-time traffic are shown, helping the driver to complete deliveries on time.

The company is aiming to enhance MyDrive’s features. As it is an open platform for developers and third parties, there will be an introduction of more enhanced driving concepts and applications which will be executed in the future, states the company.
