Jaguar invests $15M in connected-car tech firm CloudCar

Automotive manufacturer, Jaguar Land Rover, has invested $15 million as a minority investment in cloud and connected car technology development company, CloudCar. In addition, Jaguar will adopt its next-generation cloud services platform and CloudCar will launch the next-gen platform with Jaguar Land Rover’s first fully electric model, Jaguar I-PACE. “This represents an important step in developing connected car technology. CloudCar has been working with premium manufacturers on some of the most exciting opportunities and challenges in the fields of machine learning and infotainment,” said Hanno Kirner, Executive Director of Corporate Strategy, Jaguar Land Rover
“This investment is integral to Jaguar Land Rover’s vehicle technology programme but the programme also presents an invaluable opportunity for other automotive manufacturers to get involved,” he added.
According to Hanno Kirner, the eventual need to integrate into the car hundreds of driver-focused global cloud services and content means this platform is an example where cooperation between OEMs can improve outcomes for customers, as well as reducing costs.
“We are excited to deepen our relationship with Jaguar Land Rover and we also look forward to other manufacturers benefitting from our recent progress,” said Philipp Popov, CEO, CloudCar.
CloudCar claims to be the developer of connected driver experiences that uses cloud-based technology and machine learning to create an evergreen and intuitive experience for connected-onboard infotainment solutions for the car. The company states to use natural language voice processing technology, combined with machine learning to provide personalized as well as predictive driving experiences. The company’s platform SDK also allows the OEM(vehicle manufacturers) to control the look and feel of their infotainment experience, customize it and own the data for insights into customer behavior and business opportunities. According to CloudCar the platform also allows the integration of relevant applications and services and the content is continuously updated via the cloud.
