Wipro open sources its big data product targeted at enterprises

Indian consultancy and outsourcing firm, Wipro, said that it has open sourced its big data product called Big Data Ready Enterprise (BDRE). Wipro feels that open sourcing BDRE will make the implementation of big data technology simpler and faster by elevating the big data workloads under an integrated unified framework. Wipro has also joined hands with California based company Hortonworks to add value to its open source edge. Herb Cunitz, President, Hortonworks said, “Hortonworks believes that the greatest innovation happens through collaboration in the open source community. We are glad to hear that Wipro has open sourced its big data & analytics product BDRE and taken a stride in contributing to the open source community. This step will help us further strengthen our relationship and reinforces our belief in open source technology for the enterprise.” BDRE is introduced under the Apache Public License v2.0 and is hosted on GitHub.

How BDRE simplifies things for the enterprise?

  • No need to build the platform from the ground up and saves hundreds of man days.
  • Wipro’s Apache license gives complete freedom to it and customize things as per the needs.
  • Source can be easily obtained as per the specific requirement.
  • Constant business growth with significant acceleration and effortless data leverage.
Bhanumurthy B. M., President & Chief Operating Officer, Wipro Limited stated, “Wipro takes pride in being a significant contributor to the open source community, and the release of BDRE reinforces our commitment towards this ecosystem. BDRE will not only make big data technology adoption simpler and effective, it will also open opportunities across industry verticals that organizations can successfully leverage. Being at the forefront of innovation in big data, we are able to guide organizations that seek to benefit from the strategic, financial, organizational and technological benefits of adopting open source technologies.” The Open Source software consumption has shown an upward trend, which means it is growing at a faster pace. As per The Open Source Era study, commissioned by Wipro, 64% of respondents of Oxford Economics research believe that open source will drive Big Data efforts in the next three years.
