Yippy! MC+A gets acquired; search appliance market is still alive

Google has set 2018 as the sunset date for its search appliance. It wants clients to move to the cloud. Yet the market is alive, thanks to aspersions on security in the cloud. The market according to Boston headquartered search-based applications developer, Yippy is worth $500 million. Pursuing the market, the Fort Myers, Florida based company has acquired enterprise search consulting company Michael Cizmar & Associates Ltd (MC+A). While Yippy did not disclose the financial details of the deal, it said in an official statement that the acquisition will be closed by mid-July 2016. The company hopes that the acquisition of Chicago based MC+A will place it “in an excellent position to capture a significant share of the search appliance market. MC+A has been a charter Google for Work Partner and winner of Google’s 2014 Innovation Partner of the Year Award. Richard Granville, CEO, Yippy, said, “Google’s decision to focus its attention on cloud-based solutions has created an opportunity for Yippy to bridge the gap between appliance and cloud. The market for cloud-based platforms is still in its infancy and we believe the search appliance will remain a viable solution for the next decade. Our strategy is simple. We can offer existing Google Search Appliance customers and resellers a faster and cheaper search appliance, providing customers with the option ‘to cloud’ or ‘not to cloud’, or anything in the middle.” Meanwhile, MC+A’s founder Michael Cizmar will join Yippy as a member of its senior management team. In his new role, Cizmar will have primary responsibility for expanding Yippy’s relationships with other GSA resellers. The company intends to sell its EASE 360 Platform and Blue Flame appliance through MC+A, which will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yippy. “Yippy’s EASE 360 software stack offers a compelling solution for customers seeking a replacement for the Google Search Appliance,” said Cizmar. “Yippy’s Blue Flame appliance is not simply ‘on par’ with the Google Search Appliance, it is a dynamic reinvention of how enterprise search can be delivered with intelligence and analytics at a fraction of the cost,” he added.
