Datera, CoreOS to optimize Kubernetes for On-Premises Clouds

3 MIN READ

Application-driven cloud data infrastructure company, Datera, today announced a collaboration with CoreOS and other partners to allow customers to easily deploy and manage containerized stateful workloads running in on-premises Kubernetes clouds. Elastic Data Fabric from Datera provides the elastic block storage that is typically offered by leading cloud providers for on-premises deployments.

CoreOS Tectonic delivers self-driving pure upstream Kubernetes, which allows for easy integration with this Datera innovation. This allows enterprise customers, service providers and enterprise clouds to provide a consistent platform for stateless and stateful applications, such as Kafka, Cassandra and MySQL.

Enterprises looking for continuous integration/deployment and application portability are leveraging Kubernetes for a wide spectrum of workloads. Persistent volumes in Kubernetes are foundational for customers to move beyond simple stateless workloads to full stateful applications.

Datera Elastic Data Fabric automates persistent storage to scale along with applications and supports enterprise SLAs with fine-grained policy controls such as IOPS, bandwidth, security and access controls. In addition, Elastic Data Fabric provisions at container speeds, delivering thousands of deployed data stores in sub-milliseconds.

“As data centers are re-imagined for the cloud, there is a need for a simple coherent solution that orchestrates workloads and data,” said Marc Fleischmann, CEO and founder at Datera.”

“Our work within the Kubernetes community advanced the delivery of StatefulSet through the native Flex Volume framework. Working with partners like CoreOS, Datera has created a complete solution to drive containerized stateless and stateful workloads for any cloud, both public and private. Enterprise customers can use this solution to simplify their data center operations, accelerate time-to-value and reduce total cost of ownership.” he added

Kubernetes has emerged as the leading orchestration and management layer for containerized applications, allowing organizations to easily scale and deploy distributed workloads across hybrid environments. With self-driving Kubernetes, CoreOS Tectonic ensures containerized applications are secure and up-to-date with critical security patches and the most recent features available from the open source community. The combination of Datera’s elastic block storage and pure upstream Kubernetes delivered by CoreOS Tectonic establishes the foundation for running containerized, stateful applications in the enterprise.
