SaaS based cyber-security firm, CrowdStrike, has appointed Colin Black as the company’s first chief information officer (CIO).

Black will be focused on leading the infrastructure expansion of the CrowdStrike Falcon Platform, as well as scaling internal systems and processes to keep pace with geographic expansion. He will report directly to CrowdStrike’s, CEO, George Kurtz.

He brings more than 25 years’ experience in the IT space to CrowdStrike, having previously served in CIO positions with Kratos Defense and Security Inc., a billion-dollar defense contractor, Cymer Inc., and Mindspeed Technologies.

“Colin has a proven track record in building teams, systems architecture, large scale enterprise software implementation, as well as aligning processes and tools with business requirements,” said Kurtz.

“He will play a key role in helping our company grow and scale so that our infrastructure can sustain the demands and requirements of our customers and employees. In addition, his strong business knowledge in operations and IT governance will help maintain our compliance with the ever-changing landscape of local and international legal and regulatory laws, and ensure that our IT priorities are set and aligned with our business strategy.”

On his appointment as the CIO, Black shared his “excitement”, “I’m extremely excited about joining such a dynamic company and look forward to supporting its mission to protect companies from breaches and to disrupt the legacy anti-virus industry.”

He added, “As a former customer of CrowdStrike and user of their Falcon Platform during my tenure as CIO with a previous company, I can vouch first-hand that CrowdStrike’s technology is several years ahead of the competition in delivering advanced malware and non-malware prevention and system visibility previously only dreamed of.”

Black began his career as a quantum physicist and graduated from Glasgow University in Scotland with a bachelor of science in Electronics Engineering, specializing in Nano-Electronics.
