Teamie raises $1.1M in pre-series A funding

Singapore-based social, mobile learning platform, Teamie has raised $1.1 million (SGD 1.5M) in its pre-series A funding which was led by venture capital firm, ACP and saw participation from Spring Seeds Capital. It also saw investments from Phystech Ventures along with funding from an existing angel investor.

Cloud-based Teamie that develops web and mobile applications, claims to provide an online collaborative tool for educational and entrepreneurial purposes. The capital, says the company, will be used to grow its core team and build strategic partnerships in offering services across Asia Pacific. Teamie also eyes research and development in fostering learning analytics for educational institutions and enterprises in hopes to boost learning outcomes and customer-engagement.

Shivanu Shukla, Co-Founder and CEO, Teamie, said:

We believe that we learn better when we learn together. Social platforms have become the de-facto mode of communication, and together with smartphones and cloud computing, they have changed how we live, work, play and learn. Our customers leverage on the Teamie platform to complement and, in some cases, transform their teaching and learning practices to make learning engaging and collaborative with a 21st century learning experience that goes beyond the classroom.

According to the company website, Teamie harnesses the power of social networking to make learning engaging by creating a secure network for instructors and learners to interact. Reportedly, participants can share learning resources, upload existing resources (all standard formats supported) or embed content from the web. This might potentially help manage workflow in both educational institutions and enterprises.

It was founded in the year 2011 by Shivanu Shukla and Ashwin Singh with around 30 employees from offices in Singapore and India. It also claims to offer its services to customers from the world of education, including United World College South East Asia (UWCSEA), St. Joseph’s Institution (SJI) International School, International Baccalaureate (IB) and Uniteam Training. Teamie also aims to consolidate its position as the dominant regional player amongst learning platforms in the next two to three years and the funding could work in aiding Teamie, realize the same.
