Virginia-based CSRA that provides systems consulting and electronic commerce services and solutions to the US federal government has entered into an agreement with California-based Docker, which is an open platform for developers and system administrators to build, ship and run applications in cloud and data centers. The collaboration aims to enable CSRA’s federal government customers to move to the cloud or manage applications across multiple environments and modernize legacy applications, while lowering development and support costs.

CSRA that claims to deliver a broad range of cloud-enabled IT solutions and professional services, uses technologies such as Agile Development and ERP implementations. It also claims to leverage its existing partnerships with vendors, including Amazon Web Services, Salesforce, Oracle, ServiceNow and Microsoft Azure. Amongst other digital services, it also offers Platform as a Service (PaaS), mobile platforms (enterprise mobility management (EMM) and mobile PaaS), IT service management (ITSM), and cloud management. It also delivers enterprise Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications on premises and on the cloud to improve business processes, and reduce total cost of ownership to support enterprise business operations.

Larry Prior, President and CEO, CSRA, said:

Creating container-based platforms helps our customers realize efficiencies in their end-to-end applications lifecycle because applications can be built faster, with flexibility and scalability, resulting in reduced complexity and increased performance for demanding enterprise workloads. We also expect customers to be able to lower their operations costs by leveraging greater automation afforded by the Docker relationship.

“The powerful combination of CSRA and Docker will address an overwhelming need in our customer base to package applications in a way that they can run anywhere, such as in a public or a private cloud, or in a true hybrid environment,” Larry added.

Docker that provides a common framework for developer and IT teams to collaborate on applications is believed to bring aboard, application portability and agility. According to the company, developers own all the code from infrastructure to app while, IT ops have the manageability to standardize, secure, and scale the operating environment. Also, it could possibly help CSRA customers, pack applications and services as images that run in their own portable containers and ship them between physical, virtualized and cloud environments when necessary.
