CA Technologies acquires BlazeMeter to bolster DevOps portfolio

4 MIN READ

CA Technologies, that develops software tools to deploy, monitor and secure business applications has announced the acquisition of Israeli company BlazeMeter, a mobile performance testing solutions platform for developers. Though the financial and legal terms remain undisclosed, the transaction is expected to close by year end. The acquisition will position CA Technologies to extend its DevOps portfolio while, BlazeMeter will integrate with CA’s solutions to improve testing efficiency and accelerate the deployment of applications.

Headquartered in Mountain View, California, BlazeMeter claims to ensure delivery of high-performance software by enabling DevOps teams to quickly and easily run open-source based performance tests against apparently any mobile app, website or API. Since its inception in 2011, the company offers self-service load testing platform-as-a-service, which reportedly is compatible with open-source Apache JMeter, the performance testing framework by the Apache Software Foundation as well as other open source software tools like Selenium, Gatling and Locust.

Additonally, with BlazeMeter’s solution, developers and performance engineers can test earlier and often in the application lifecycle to improve their test coverage and avoid encountering performance problems too close to production, vouches the company.

Alon Girmonsky, Founder and CEO, BlazeMeter said:

“Developers and performance engineers want to achieve superior test coverage by using open source tools and tools that can integrate well into the developer ecosystem. Joining forces with CA Technologies will enable BlazeMeter to continue developing our technology while enjoying the vast resources of CA Technologies to better serve our customers.”

In another company blogpost, Girmonsky also stated that the merger is well-timed. “While nothing compares to the feeling of building an independent company from scratch, I believe it is the right time for BlazeMeter to join forces with CA Technologies – one of the top leaders in Enterprise Software.”

“CA Technologies and BlazeMeter share a common vision for the future of open source-based continuous testing, and we are excited about the opportunity we bring as one company,” he added.

Ayman Sayed, president and Chief Product Officer, CA Technologies, said “BlazeMeter has redefined performance testing with its simplicity, fast-deployment SaaS model, and rapid time-to-value. The acquisition will reinforce our leadership position in continuous testing, and our efforts to democratize performance testing as organizations accelerate their DevOps journey to drive speed and quality in the delivery of new software updates and innovations.”

However, this isn’t CA’s first pick in a DevOps play. Earlier, in 2015, the New York-based company had acquired two enterprise test data management and service providers; Rally Software for $480 million (approximately) in a May buyout followed by a June acquisition of Grid Tools for an undisclosed amount.
