4 MIN READ

Data management and analytics platform, Cloudera, has announced a catalogue of online, self-paced training classes covering its entire portfolio of industry-standard Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark training courses. Being called OnDemand, the company states that the training course allows individuals to learn about the latest big data technologies in a searchable environment anytime, anywhere and also lets the users learn Hadoop at their own pace, without participating in offline training events.

The company claims that this eLearning platform combines recorded lectures from senior instructors of the company, with hands-on exercises completed in a cloud-based lab environment. OnDemand is meant for both the student as well as enterprises consisting of developers, administrators, analysts and data scientists, in need of hands-on knowledge of Hadoop.

Mark Morrissey, Senior Director, Education Programs, Cloudera said, “With Cloudera OnDemand, we’ve made our training courses more accessible to our customers, as well as organizations thinking about deploying a big data solution.”

“With our cloud-based lab environment, students don’t need to worry about onerous hardware requirements, they simply need access to the web to start learning immediately. This is going to dramatically change the requirements of big data training and allow many more developers to flourish in a big data environment.”

The company states that, though, open source platforms like Cloudera Enterprise is helping driving business transformation across the value chain, global organizations still face a skills gap – a lack of trained data professionals. Hence, the company is giving a strong focus on education, to reduce the skill-gap.

For companies with teams of users, Cloudera OnDemand claims to have included collaborative learning within their platform. This according to the company helps students interact with individuals from around the world allowing for more detailed discussion, archived answers to potential questions, and the opportunity to learn about different use cases. Customers that wish to keep their conversations internal, have the option to create private groups.

Currently OnDemand’s offering can be purchased as a library where individuals receive access to Cloudera’s entire suite of training content for a year or by individual course title available in six-month subscriptions. All new courses developed during the subscription period are included with library subscriptions, as well as any updates to courses. The company claims that it is making training subscribers avail Developer Training For Spark and Hadoop, Cloudera Administrator Training, and Data Analyst Training, as part of the OnDemand course.
