Database software provider DataStax today announced the acquisition of DataScale, a cloud-based management services company for data infrastructure. The company also announced the forthcoming availability of DataStax Managed Cloud, a fully-managed database service, which will be available in early 2017.

“At DataStax, we recognize that delivering cloud applications at a global scale is critically important, and that’s why we’ve decided to introduce a fully-managed, comprehensive data service offering to help our customers transform their businesses even faster,” said Billy Bosworth, CEO, DataStax.

“Together we will accelerate our customers’ ability to deliver cloud applications that provide real-time value, by offering another powerful option for deploying and managing those systems at epic scale.” he added

According to the company, Managed Cloud will provide customers full capabilities of DSE in a managed cloud service. Customers will be able to easily exploit their hybrid cloud datacenter plans with DSE acting as the common data layer for their cloud applications, whether deployed on-premise, in public cloud infrastructure, or in any hybrid configuration.

“DataScale was founded so that businesses can focus on their core competency while we manage the complexities and expenses involved in creating and operating a business critical distributed database platform. With this acquisition, DataStax is now able to provide the database as well as a managed platform enabling customers to remain laser focused on running their business and delivering exceptional customer experiences to their end users. We are thrilled about this opportunity and look forward to becoming part of the team,” said Peter Bakas, Founder, DataScale.

DataScale also states that users will be able to choose flexible implementation and management models based on their requirements. Customers will be able to self-manage DSE using its automated management services and OpsCenter product; or choose a comprehensive, cloud-based, DataStax-managed solution with Managed Cloud.
