Hewlett Packard Enterprise unveils first converged system for IoT

Software solution provider, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, claims to have unveiled the industry’s first converged systems for Internet of Things (IoT)- Edgeline EL1000 and Edgeline EL4000. The systems assimilate data capture, control, compute, and storage to deliver heavy-duty analytics and insights at the edge to enable real-time decision making. Moreover, the company also declared that it has improved the IoT security capabilities with more services to develop the adoption and impact of IoT.

HPE has also announced the Vertica Analytics Platform which runs on Edgeline EL4000 and delivers historical and predictive analytic insights from in-database machine learning algorithms across a broad range of IoT analytic use cases. In order to ease the traffic to the data center the EL1000 and EL4000 support Aruba’s Virtual Intranet Access (VIA) VPN client. Aruba’s VIA provides organizations an automated, zero-touch, secure VPN, and is available for both commercial and high-security government IoT applications.

According to HPE, the spread of IoT devices has shown an upward trend, the enterprises can rapidly capture, process and analyze the data to allow real time control and decision making. For instance, the Oil and gas, manufacturing and telecommunication enterprises face several problems related to IoT. They need to harness data from windmills in the desert to smart energy grids and manufacturing plants in remote environments; to drive timely business decisions. Until now, the remote data would have to be transported to a data center or cloud for analysis, which according to HPE is a slow, risky and inefficient process. The company claims that its IoT solutions can allow the organizations to bind the power of their data by delivering real-time analytics and machine learning at the edge, where the “things” are.

Tom Bradicich, Vice President and General Manager, Servers and IoT Systems, Hewlett Packard Enterprise says:

“Organizations that take advantage of the vast amount of data and run deep analytics at the edge can become digital disrupters within their industries. HPE has built machine learning and real time analytics into its IoT platforms, and provides services that help customers understand how data can best be leveraged, enabling them to optimize maintenance management, improve operations efficiency and ultimately, drive significant cost savings.”

IoT security on the go

According to HPE, every enterprise seeks to secure its network, which is a primary concern. The networks should automatically add, detect and secure the new and unknown IoT devices without any manual operations. With the enhancements to the Aruba ClearPass, IT can shape out new IoT devices enforce security policies, and exchange policy status with other security systems including mobile device management systems. ClearPass integrates with the existing network infrastructures from any vendor, making it easy for the IT teams to automate and scale rather than keep the track of the digital transformations.

Transformation Workshops facilitating IoT Expertise

HPE, has also commenced an IoT Transformation Workshop (TW), which is a communicative platform that facilitates customers to define their IoT vision and strategy and add value to it. This is an analytical approach to help the customers to streamline their vision, categorize current and future states and determine a set of specific transformational IoT projects. This workshop is an initiative to pave the way for those customers who want to implement IoT solutions based on business needs and industry parameters.

The Partnerships

Recently HPE has inked a strategic partnership with GE Digital to unite Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. HPE along with GE and its Predix platform is going to bring digital know-how to the industry sector. This association offers a combination of HPE and GE hardware and software to deliver a new suite of solutions for customers seeking to transform their businesses with real-time analytics and insights.

HPE has also collaborated with National Instruments (NI) in order to facilitate the availability of pre-tested Big Analog Data solutions based on NI DataFinder Server Edition software and HPE Moonshot Systems. The alliance will make available the pre- tested hardware and software combinations for solving engineering data management problems and making decisions from sensor data more effectively.

HPE is also partnering with PTC, as it claims to be expanding its Internet of Things (IoT) technology platform by delivering comprehensively distributed, real-time edge computing capabilities, specifically designed for industrial use cases. These solutions talk about the industries that use cases to combine the Operational Technology (OT).

HPE has come up with four IoT Innovation Labs around the globe whose operations are handled by Intel and HPE both. The aim is to help the customers channelize how IoT can be actively functioned in their industry and test IoT applications and assess technical expertise. The labs are located at HPE centers in Houston, Texas, US; Grenoble, France; Bangalore, India; and Singapore.
