GoDaddy acquires wordpress management tool ManageWP

Web hosting platform GoDaddy has entered into an agreement with ManageWP, a web application that manages multiple WordPress websites including schedule backups, migrate, automate updates and monitor website traffic. With ManageWP, web designers and developers can manage many number of WordPress sites from a single dashboard even if the sit hosts from somewhere else. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

According to ManageWP, it is not going to make any variations in the pricing model, its features and the way it operates and it will remain as an independent platform even after the acquisition. GoDaddy will integrate its hosting services with ManageWP’s site management tools.

Takeaway for ManageWP and GoDaddy

ManageWP says that it is lacking in the management department thus, with GoDaddy it will try to make improvements in that area. The company is also expecting to make enhancements in its product in order to build a new line of features for the users. Arizona-based GoDaddy, mainly known for domain registration services will integrate ManageWP features like backups, staging, cloning and site migrations into GoDaddy’s WordPress hosting.

According to a statement by ManageWP:

“As some of you know, managed WordPress hosting is one of the things we planned. GoDaddy already has a mature WordPress hosting product, and it made much more sense to further develop it as opposed to doing it from scratch (although you’ll miss out an exciting new pricing model we were planning for our hosting, it would require 3D glasses for full shopping experience). With GoDaddy we’ll be able to tightly collaborate with experienced hosting veterans and provide a hosting solution that works perfectly with ManageWP.”

With the acquisition of ManageWP, GoDaddy claims that is the only provider of both WordPress management and WordPress hosting solutions. GoDaddy now provides one place for web developers and designers to manage and maintain all their WordPress sites efficiently, and to generate new recurring revenue streams to grow their businesses. For GoDaddy, the acquisition will strengthen its services that are specifically inclined towards web designers and developers.

Jeff King, SVP of Hosting at GoDaddy said, “GoDaddy is serious about investing in WordPress and ManageWP is by far the leading tool for managing WordPress sites. Together, we’ll bring ManageWP to the scale of GoDaddy, helping web designers and developers save thousands of work hours and touch millions of websites globally, no matter where they are hosted.”

GoDaddy recently launched AWS-like cloud computing services that offers SMBs to to build, test and scale cloud solutions on GoDaddy’s infrastructure. Moreover, GoDaddy took over California-based Encinitas for $42 million with an aim to deliver cloud-based telephony services to SMBs.
