The new features would include intuitive drag-and-drop design experience supports real-time collaboration by multiple editors, just like in Docs, and offered easy access to content from Calendar, Docs, Drive to Maps. It would also include themes and layouts that could be scaled and flexed to various screen sizes.
After customer testing through an early adopter program, the rebuilt version of Google Sites is now Generally Available. The company states that since its initiation in 2008, Sites has made it possible for employees to build working team projects sites without writing any code.
Ease of use
Google claims that with the upgraded Sites, enterprises can create and add text links, images with cut-and-paste, or simply drag-and-drop to rearrange and resize elements on the page.
App integration
The new Sites can also integrate Google apps which allows employees to insert content from the tools being used most. One can embed a schedule from Google Calendar, a video clip from Google Drive, or a location from Google Maps. Employees can also insert content from Docs, Sheets, Slides and Forms and a live version will be presented within the site.
Collaborative approach
The company states that Sites is a one of a kind collaborative tool for building team and project sites. Using the same technology as Google Docs, the new Sites brings real-time, multi-user coauthoring which allows teams to add and update a project site without conflicts or locked pages.
New themes & visualization options
New Sites also includes themes and layouts designed to scale and flex to any screen size. An integrated preview mode lets the user see what the site will look like on a desktop, a tablet and a smartphone while it is being edited.
The company claims that the New Sites is available to G Suite customers who have Google Sites enabled. The company has also stated that employees can continue to use the classic Sites without upgrading too.
