Nuxeo, a developer of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform, has announced the immediate availability of Nuxeo Platform LTS 2016. This latest release aims is driven at helping enterprises realize the full potential of every digital asset.

According to the company, the platform would help organizations create new revenue streams and business models, and continuously innovate ahead of the market – at massive scale, while maximizing the value of their existing systems and processes.

“Many enterprise organizations struggle to turn data into valuable digital assets,” said Eric Barroca, CEO, Nuxeo.

“Nuxeo Platform LTS 2016 allows our customers to realize the full value of those digital assets, even if they are complex or scattered across the organization. As a result, Nuxeo enables organizations to transform to new business models, protect IP, or drive digital business growth. Thanks to a new Web UI, advanced DAM capabilities, unmatched performance, and many other new features, our customers can achieve incredible digital transformation success,” Barroca added.

Nuxeo Platform LTS 2016 claims to feature a user interface that is focused on user productivity and ease of use with a configurable search-based navigation, task-oriented UI, and user-centric workflows. The company claims that this new user interface allows more efficient workflows and puts search at the center of user actions. Business solutions provider IBM today announced that it is working with Singapore startup, FreshTurf in the Singapore location of its Bluemix Garage network. Using IBM Cloud and Blockchain technologies, FreshTurf has been working with the Bluemix Garage developers and designers to create a network of storage lockers for shipping and parcel delivery throughout Singapore. This is designed to help improve the “last mile” of delivery services for consumers and businesses, or the final leg of a package’s journey to a customer’s home.

Fueled by and built on Bluemix, IBM’s cloud platform, the duo intend to build a distributed ledger platform prototype specifically designed to manage commercial transactions between merchants, logistic vendors, locker companies and consumers. They believe that this would help provide visibility across the fulfillment chain, allowing users to track their parcel and delivery status from the convenience of their phone. Also, it can help stakeholders to conduct shipping transactions in a highly secure and trusted environment.

“As a startup, we wanted a partner and mentor who would guide us through the journey of adopting blockchain and building with cloud, while also helping us to grow,” said Jarryl Hong, Co-Founder, FreshTurf.

“During the Design Thinking workshop, we had access to technical expertise, consulting and guidance through working with the IBM Bluemix Garage which allowed us to quickly build our concept. The IBM Bluemix Garage’s methods of Design Thinking, use of cloud and agile development practices served as the foundation of our startup.”

Bluemix Garages serve as a hub where developers, product managers and designers can come together to build on Bluemix. The Singapore Bluemix Garage is one of the latest in IBM’s global network, which also includes locations in San Francisco, London, Toronto, Nice and Tokyo.

“IBM is working closely with startups and larger enterprises alike to accelerate the design and development of blockchain applications,” said Alan Lim, Practice Lead, IBM Blockchain & Bluemix Garage, ASEAN.

“Blockchain represents a very exciting and vital part of IBM’s business. Organizations large and small have the potential to disrupt and fundamentally rewrite existing business models, processes and systems and emerge as leaders in their chosen industry.”

According to IBM, more than 120,000 apps are launched every month on Bluemix. Based in open standards, it features over 150 tools and services spanning categories of big data, mobile, cognitive computing, analytics, security, blockchain and Internet of Things.

Promapp Solutions that provides cloud-based management software has launched Process Variant Management (PVM), a software tailored to channelize the management process of those organizations that have multiple locations and multiple products. The new software standardizes processes across the entire company, while incorporating process variations to meet the requirements of a specific corporate location, product, or customer.

Bringing regional offices closer

The company claims that for any organization, controlling process variations is a major challenge, especially when the organizations with different regions, different products, customer types, business units and shared service clients. The New Zealand-based company states that PVM establishes standardized processes with controlled variations.

In simple words process variant is nothing but a specific activity sequence. Thus, with this software it becomes easy to own or remove process variations and improve transparency, compliance and control. Simplifying the management of process variations allows companies to save both time and money, while enabling them to control and improve customized services and activities across locations.

Ivan Seselj, CEO, Promapp said, “Managing process variations has always been a huge problem. “It is unnecessarily complex, costly, and inconsistent, particularly for companies which are multi-nationals, have numerous locations, or offer multiple core products or services.”

Promapp’s Business Process Management (BPM) tool claims to constantly improve the way teams provide value to their customers and treats business processes as a key knowledge asset of organization, similarly PVM is designed for use by everyday business teams. According to Promapp, creating a process variation is as simple as establishing the standard process, creating variations and making them available to the right people within organization. Promapp makes it easy to identify, calculate and report on the cost of both global and process specific variations.

Promapp clients who have been given pre-launch access to PVM are explaining it as a simplified module that combines similar processes into one. PVM has allows user to document complex processes then map the variations for the other project types.

Microsoft has announced the general availability of Azure Logic Apps, which is Microsoft’s Integration Platform-as-a-Service (iPaaS) offering that claims to enable rapid, enterprise-grade, hybrid application connectivity.

In an official Microsoft blog, Frank Weigel, Principal Director, Program Management, Microsoft stated that the company has been working on building a comprehensive hybrid integration platform that allows customers to seamlessly connect traditional on-premises systems and cloud-native applications.

Logic Apps forms an integral part of this strategy, and its general availability marks an important milestone for us in delivering against Microsoft’s Enterprise Application Integration vision.

How will Logic App help?

According to Microsoft, as businesses go through digital transformation and as applications, data and devices proliferate; agile enterprise integration forms the backbone of this journey, making it possible for companies to connect systems and optimize processes as they evolve.

With the launch of Logic Apps, the company claims that customers can seamlessly consume SaaS and enterprise applications, unlock value from their existing on-premises systems and enhance their integration solutions to make informed business decisions.

Azure Logic Apps

“Integration has traditionally been a complex and tedious process. Logic Apps makes it possible to complete projects faster and iterate more efficiently by offering a vast set of out-of-the-box connectors that can help you integrate SaaS applications like Office 365, Salesforce, Dynamics CRM and many more within minutes. With a new visual designer, you can now spend less time coding and more time composing workflows that help automate complex business processes,” said Weigel.

Azure Logic Apps
Few connectors available in Logic Apps

Microsoft states, by using Azure Logic apps, the users can:

  • Unlock value from existing on-premises systems as modern enterprise IT is hybrid, relying on data across both on-premises and cloud can connect to any existing on-premises system directly through its on-premises data gateway, giving users the flexibility they need to choose the most relevant integration strategy for their business.
  • Use enterprise messaging in the cloud as Microsoft recently shipped Enterprise Integration Pack Public Preview in Logic Apps, providing users the ability to work with trading partners across company firewalls easily and securely using standard enterprise messaging protocols. This aims to significantly reduce the challenges faced when transacting B2B workloads with partners.
  • Move away from the building fragmented, costly integration solutions to a more holistic approach as Logic Apps takes existing Azure cloud offerings even further. With its set of connectors, users can expand their existing Azure Cloud solutions to gain actionable intelligence, automate processes, and make better informed business decisions.

“We make it easy to integrate Azure offerings such as Azure IoT Suite, Cortana Intelligence and services such as machine learning and cognitive services with Logic Apps. Imagine the possibilities of expanding this with additional business processes made possible through Logic Apps,” Weigel added.

The company also claims that it has given its customers the option to purchase Logic Apps as a standalone service or they can continue to use current pricing plans such as App Service or IoT Suite.

Telekom Deutschland, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, has announced a new offering called Hosted MDM (Mobile Device Management) Basic. It is a new cloud-based Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) offering built on MobileIron‘s Cloud platform. Hosted in the datacenters of Deutsche Telekom located in Germany, Telekom Deutschland and MobileIron will use the Data Trustee model to offer a cloud-based EMM service that adheres to Germany’s data protection regulations and satisfies the privacy requirements of German enterprise customers and public sector institutions.

What does it do?

Hosted MDM Basic provides simplified security and control of Android, iOS, and Windows devices. Using this platform, enterprises can configure and selectively manage mobile apps, content, and devices, automatically enforce policies, and retire mobile devices when they are lost or when an employee leaves the company. Distributed by Slovak Telekom, Hrvatski Telekom, and Cosmote, the service is added as a line item on the customer’s monthly phone bill.

Why the need?

According to Telekom Germany, modern companies want to give their employees access to corporate information, projects and applications, without having to accept compromises in terms of safety and without specifying a device type. Mobile Device Management (MDM) manages all devices in an application and saves the data on the cloud. The data is safe from unauthorized access at all times via the backup available even if a device is lost.

How does it help?

With MDM, businesses can distribute apps and files quickly and easily on mobile devices and centrally administer all mobile devices via a web-based portal. The company ensures data security by hosting in a highly secure data center in Germany and includes lock and wipe, encryption and password policy for additional security. It can easily be integrated into a company’s IT infrastructure through APIs for Android, iOS and Windows.

Barry Mainz, CEO, MobileIron, says, “Mobile technology gives us the ability to get data and act on it more quickly so organizations that are serious about using mobile technologies can dramatically increase their velocity. Our integration with Telekom Deutschland combines MobileIron’s industry-leading mobile security platform with Telekom Deutschland’s data trustee capabilities.

In a bid to bolster its efforts towards Internet of Things (IoT), Samsung has introduced the ARTIK Cloud service, an open data exchange platform designed to connect devices and applications. This is its latest addition to a family of ARTIK software and hardware products designed for the Internet of Things.

ARTIK Cloud provides easy-to-use, open APIs and tools to securely collect, store, and act on any data from any connected device or cloud service. Using these APIs and tools, companies can quickly bring new IoT solutions and services to market. The idea is to offer companies a service that can be rolled out quickly in order to bring Internet of Things applications to market.

Explaining why ARTIK Cloud is an important milestone for Samsung, B.K. Yoon, CEO of Samsung Electronics said:

“As more and more consumer IoT devices are created and brought to market, the need for interoperability becomes paramount as it is the key to creating more compelling and integrated experiences. The need for an open cloud solution that can work with any connected device, and with other cloud services is critical for broader consumer adoption. The launch of ARTIK Cloud is extremely exciting because it promises to not only help Samsung connect our diverse portfolio of products, but also enable other companies to participate in a growing IoT ecosystem.”

Thales extending its security solutions to ARTIK cloud

The SAMSUNG ARTIK internet of things (IoT) platform is supported by Thales’s cryptographic solutions to provide cryptographic key generation, verification, signing and key management. This brings in hardware security technology to ensure the authenticity and validity of device firmware.

Peter Galvin, vice president of strategy, Thales e-Security says, “In the new world of connected everything, trust and security are critical to the interaction of devices, people and things. Securing personal data, preventing unauthorized access or ensuring the integrity of things – be it a smart watch, TV, medical device or personal fitness product requires sophisticated security controls.”

Thales has long been associated with Samsung for delivering cryptographic security at point of manufacture to mobile phones and televisions. Samsung is now banking on it to deliver the critical security infrastructure to score a secure IoT ecosystem.

Device and Data Interoperability

Companies taking to IoT face numerous hurdles like collecting data from a diverse set of devices using a variety of protocols; enabling legacy, new, and third-party devices and cloud services to interact with each other with minimal effort; managing data security and privacy; and so on.

The open SAMSUNG ARTIK platform provides all of the essential hardware and software building blocks to allow faster, simpler development of new enterprise, industrial and consumer applications. This allows developers to focus on their areas of expertise in designing new applications and services rather than having to build entire systems from the ground up, enabling a faster time-to-market.

Samsung used a cute personal assistant robot that it calls Otto to demonstrate its IoT platform. It is equipped with microphones and speakers so it can answer questions like “What’s the weather?,” plus it can be used to control various connected gadgets in your home like light switches and refrigerators. Developing a prototype like Otto indicates that the South Korean tech giant hopes to get a sturdy foothold in the blossoming IoT market.
