eMudhra, a licensed Certifying Authority
under the Information Technology Act of India, announced today that it has joined hands with over 15 State Governments to help them go digital as part of the e-Governance initiatives.
Under the initiative, eMudhra claims that it has enabled Aadhar eSign
and Digital signature based signing to various government officers in several districts of these states. This has facilitated paperless employee logins, leave requests, memos and official document signing.
A digital signature is a legally valid electronic form of a signature that can be used to authenticate the identity of the sender of a message or the signer of a document, and ensure that the original content of the message or document that has been sent is unchanged. The signature is legally valid and non-repudiable under the Information Technology Act.
The Digital signatures provided by eMudhra ensure that the document cannot be tampered with, reduces process delays, and eliminates the need to print paper, scan and fax. In addition, the company explains that approvals can now be obtained remotely assuring faster turnaround times in decision making.

eMudhra has been issuing digital signature certificates in India since 2008. As of now, government offices follow a paper based administration for all internal processes. Inorder to fast-track the process and accelerate the service delivery mechanism, the state governments looked to eMudhra to offer solutions in digitally transforming its operations.
Commenting on the collaboration with state governments, Srinivasan adds:
