Metaswitch & HPE integrate for Cloud-Native IMS solution
Cloud native communications software company, Metaswitch, has integrated its virtualized IP Multimedia Subsystem (vIMS) solution with Hewlett Packard Enterprise‘s (HPE) Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade and NFV Director orchestration platform. The move was made to accelerate fixed and mobile network operators’ deployments of advanced services including VoLTE on private, public or hybrid cloud infrastructures.
Combining both, Metaswitch has claimed that it will become the first Independent Software Vendor (ISV) to complete all levels of validation in the HPE OpenNFV Partner Program.Brandon Harper, SVP, Business Development, Metaswitch said, “The integration of Metaswitch IMS and HPE Helion enables CSPs to take full advantage of breakthrough cloud economics when bringing advanced voice services to market. The combined solution builds on our commitment to cloud native software development and furthers our close collaboration with HPE, which stands at the forefront of NFV platform and infrastructure virtualization.”
How will the integration help?
According to Metaswitch, the integration with HPE will increase the speed to market as cloud native IMS installs in hours, not months, solving the challenge of IMS deployment complexity, without compromising carrier grade performance, reliability, or manageability. It will also provide service innovation where communication service providers (CSPs) can use Metaswitch’s microservices-based, modular software solutions to flexibly evolve existing services and develop new applications without monolithic legacy software limitations and overhead. The company also states that the integration will enable elasticity, as cloud-native software, allows CSPs to capitalize on the transformation of services like VoLTE, VoWiFi and messaging to NFV, with dynamic on-demand scaling that is more cost effective to plan, operate and support. How will the integration work?
Metaswitch’s Cloud Native IMS Core solution includes the Clearwater IMS Core and the Perimeta Session Border Controller (SBC), providing a critical framework to transition communication services to cloud infrastructures. Clearwater is a cloud-native IMS Core built on microservices architecture and open source framework to support rapid application development. Perimeta is a virtualized SBC that distributes signaling and media functionality across commodity hardware in the cloud.According to the company, combined, these products allow the Metaswitch vIMS solution to achieve an unprecedented combination of scalability and cost-efficiency.Werner Schaefer, Vice President and General Manager, NFV, HPE said, “The partnership between Metaswitch and HPE brings together two leaders in NFV delivering a cloud-native IMS solution on HPE Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade that is ready for production IMS deployments. This integration helps carriers realize the promise of accelerated time-to-market, reduced costs and service agility that stand as core goals of our virtualization initiatives.”
