Twilio acquires Beepsend to enhance its SMS capabilities

Twilio, a San Francisco-based cloud communications platform company, has acquired Beepsend, a Swedish Application to Person (A2P) SMS messaging provider. With the acquisition, Twilio will be expanding its global reach while Beepsend aims to accelerate the product roadmap for the Twilio Super Network. Although the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, it is reported that Beepsend will continue its operations as usual, offering customers its portfolio of products. Additionally, with the final deal being closed now, it will be able to provide access to Twilio’s entire platform, including voice, messaging, and video services. Its team of 40 employees will be joining Twilio.
“With this acquisition, we are expanding both the breadth and depth of our network reach to provide customers with even more delivery options for their messaging needs. Furthermore, this adds even more redundancy and resiliency on top of the global telecom network,” said Benjamin Stein, Director of Product, Messaging, Twilio in a blogpost.
Founded in 2006, Beepsend provides capabilities such as message traffic segmentation, route monitoring and analysis which will be integrated into the Twilio platform, enhancing the capabilities of its Super Network.
“Over the years Beepsend has grown to become one of the leading Tier 1 A2P SMS messaging providers globally. We are delighted to join the Twilio family where our combined talents can continue to expand our global reach and provide best in class communication products. Our enterprise customers will enjoy the benefits from access to Twilio’s Super Network,” says Elisabeth Brevenson, CEO and Founder, Beepsend.
The PaaS provider aims to make communications relevant and contextual for developers and businesses by embedding messaging, voice and video capabilities directly into their software applications. Founded in 2008, the company reportedly has over 700 employees, with headquarters in San Francisco and other offices in Bogotá, Dublin, Hong Kong, London, Madrid, Mountain View, Munich, New York City, Singapore and Tallinn.
